Wood County Rotary:  $500 deadline  May 1.  Must be a senior with involvement in community service, a 2.5 grade point average, recommendation from school official, and demonstration of need for scholarship.

West Virginia Desk and Derrick Club:  May 31 deadline;  must attend a WV college or university and  must be choosing an energy related program.  Applications in the Guidance Office.

Procedures for college application--(each senior has a copy of this)

    CHECKLIST FOR APPLYING TO COLLEGE

_____1.  Request and receive applications for admission from appropriate catalogues or online.

_____2.  If at all possible, schedule a Campus Visit.  Most colleges offer this program.  Talk with  counselors and with students. 

_____3.  Take the required tests as listed by the catalogues. (ACT(with writing)/SAT/SATII SUBJECT TESTS) If  you have already taken these tests and wish to send the reports to an additional college, you can do this on line (for a fee, of course)..

_____4.  Make a Xerox Copy of your application to use as a work sheet.  Once you are satisfied with  your application, then type or neatly print using black ink.  (typing is preferred).

_____5.  Make a Xerox Copy  of your completed application and fee so that if the college misplaces  it, you will have a copy.

_____6.  Bring Completed Application, including a check if there is an application fee, to Mrs. Frank  in the Guidance Office.  If the application requires a special envelope provided by the           college, bring it also.  I will then complete the school's part of the application, attach a                    transcript, and mail your application.  ALLOW AT LEAST TWO WEEKS FOR THE               APPLICATION  TO BE COMPLETED BY THE GUIDANCE OFFICE. The Guidance         Office will complete SIX applications for free.  After that, you will be billed $10.00 per application.  (see Student Handbook)

_____7.  Letters of Recommendation: Some colleges require additional recommendations from    teachers.  This is your responsibility.  If these letters are to accompany the application, please tell the teachers the date the letters are due in the Guidance Office.  ALLOW AT  LEAST TWO WEEKS. If the teachers are to mail the letters directly, you should provide them with an addressed and stamped envelope.  A list of your activities and achievements is  helpful to those doing  your recommendations.

_____8.  Mid-year grades:  If the college that you have chosen requires your first semester grades, it will provide you with a form which you should bring to Mrs. Frank or to Mrs. Rafferty.    Make sure that you have filled out and signed the top part of the form.
                                           
_____9.  Final Transcripts:  In May you will fill out a form designating your college choice.  Final transcripts will be mailed in June.

____10.  Financial Aid:  The forms for financial aid will arrive in December.  We will have a         workshop December (TBA) 2007 at 7:00 p.m. for you and your parents.

____11.  Scholarship information arrives daily in the Guidance Office.  Please check weekly for this information. On/line access. On Mrs. Frank’s homework site–scholarships will be listed as        they come in and deleted when their deadline passes.

PROMISE SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION ** (this information subject to change)

Requirements:
1.  Overall Composite ACT of 22 with NO sub-score less than 20./Combined SAT Score of 1020 with nothing less than a 490 on the verbal section and 480 Math on a single test date.

Overall Grade Point Average of 3.0

Overall Core Grade Point Average of 3.0

Last date to take the ACT is Dec. 9.

Promise application must be complete online or postmarked by March 1.

The common application for the promise is easy to do online.  The FAFSA must be received at the processing office no later than March 1, 2008.
