items are listed in chronological order, with the most recently
received items at the top. Scrolling down may reveal earlier messages from the same folks. Due to the volume of info we have received, items from earlier dates have been archived to a separate page. You can check out some back data by clicking HERE. January 2008 Congratulations to John ( ') and Hannah CARRITHERS, who recently celebrated the birth of their twin boys, Luke Allen and William Carey. Both were born on the 11th, weighed in between 5 lbs and 11-12 ounces, and are doing quite well so far. According to our info, the boys are quite individual, with Luke being rather laid-back and looking like his mother, while Liam (as William is called) is fiesty and resembles his father. You can check their progress at the family's webpage HERE. December 2007 It recently became known that former Crusaderette basketball star Mary Ostrowski has been hospitalized in Tennessee with multiple myeloma, a form of blood cancer. This is a very serious condition, and the prayers of the entire PC family are needed. A media spokesperson at UT Medical Center says that Mary went through a very traumatic stage, but is now off dialysis and is recovering nicely. The illness is described as "incurable, but treatable", and that they are optimistic, apparently meaning that Mary will always face challenges resulting from it, but should improve her health over time. The Ostrowski family has declined public comment, and we respect their wishes. Mary was, of course, an outstanding athlete while here at PCHS, leading her team to 88 consecutive victories and 2 WV State Class A Championships. As Jody Murphy said in his article in the local paper, she "didn't write the record book for West Virginia's girls' basketball, she invented it." Her legacy of dedication to excellence in basketball continues here today, with our school being the only one in WV to hold 10 titles. We are certain that she will fight this cancer with the same determination and intensity that she displayed on the court. We are also certain that the prayers and good wishes of all members of the PC family will be beneficial to her in that endeavor. Kathy COONEY Ritschel ('79) read the story in the newspaper, and sends her prayers as well. She wonders how all her former teammates and coaches are doing. If you know of the e-mails of any members of the '78-'79 State Basketball Championship team, she'd like to hear from you. Check her e-mail on our Alumni page. November 2007 While most of us were celebrating Veterans' Day, Amanda SMITH McBrayer ('98) and her husband Mason were celebrating Labor Day (always Social Studies challenged, that girl). Amanda gave birth to Owen Douglas, their first child, who weighed in at 7 pounds, 12 ounces and measured 20 inches long. At last report, both mother and child were doing well, though Amanda is no doubt happy to be able to put that baby down once in awhile now (since he was weighing heavily on her those last few weeks). Congratulations kids! Missie MOORE McCown, who would have graduated in 1991 had she not had to go to PHS, regularly checks out our website to catch up on the doings of old friends. She is married to Scott, a nice fellow she met in college at Marshall, and now lives in Orlando, where her 14 year-old daughter plays basketball pursues an acting career. (You can check out Ashley's resume at www.247cast.com/ashleymccown, where one of her photos is a spitting image of her mom.) Missie also reports on her siblings. Kristie is doing very well is and is happily living in wedded bliss out there somewhere, while Jane is an RN at Camden Clark hospital, Jay is the superintendant of WV Golf Club, and Trisha lives in Wheeling. She also has a MySpace account, which I will send to you if you e-mail me. You can contact Missie at mmccown2001@yahoo.com, but she hopes to visit Parkersburg sometime in the spring, so maybe we'll see her then. Tara JACKSON ('00) writes to tell us that she will be changing her name soon, as she plans to marry on December 15th. She apparently found a really good guy from St. Marys (not as rare as we might imagine) and hopes to make it in for some basketball games this winter. She is currently working as a realtor in the Parkersburg area, and hopes her life will calm down a bit after the wedding. (Keep dreaming!) Kari FOX ('05) caught up with the school on our website recently and is amazed at how fast she's aging. Brother Chase's ('09) impending graduation has her a bit amazed, and the nearness of the beginning of her own career in education seems almost too much to imagine. She has been busy as well attending Fairmont State football games, no doubt enjoying watching Vince ('03) and Nate ('05) BLACK who have been tearin' it up for the Falcon defense this year. (Vince has been named player of the week at least 3 times and had an interception on Senior Day.) She may also be interested in their brother Luke ('07) who finally got to dress for the final game, but I think there is also some character named Brandon Geary that she seems focused on. Can't imagine why. October 2007 Irene CLEGG Powell ('99) was married to Matt in January of this year, and is living in North Hills. Her children are growing rapidly and are doing well. Madison is now 3 years old and is loving the pre-K program at PC, while Lauren Marie Powell was born on April 6th of this year. Irene expects to finish her RN program in May, while Matt is a civil engineer, working on the Blennerhassett Bridge in Corridor D. Mary AZAR Callahan ('96) is now the Director of Conferences and Special Events at Butler University in Indianapolis. She recently updated her e-mail address, and would probably like to hear from her former schoolmates. She was married on Sept. 29, 2006. Adam NEDEFF ('01) is currently Entertainment Marketing Coordinator for Promotional Consideration, Inc., which means that he is the guy who arranges hotel and airline accomodations for contestants on game shows, like Wheel of Fortune. In his spare time, he is sharing an apartment with guys from Marshall who have all moved to Glendale, California. He is also working on a TV pilot, a new game-show format, a novel, and a super-secret hush-hush TV project. Hopefully he will contact us before these things air so we can credit-watch. Homecoming was well-attended, and I wish that everyone who had been there had stopped to tell me about their current situations and lifestyle, but it is a busy day. Chris BOELTER ('06) was asking about his classmates at the inaugural Homecoming cookout on Fort Boreman hill [created by new Development Director Skip Roedersheimer ('86)]. Chris is still at Marshall, but is looking to move over to St. Marys' Hospital for their Nursing program. It seems that they have a 2-year program that is highly regarded, graduation from which would still allow him to pursue an advanced degree from Marshall or another institution. Best wishes to Chris as he moves along that path. Cody BOYLEN ('03) dropped by to see how things were going at the old school. He now the manager of a convenience store in Tennessee, where he has been very successful both at work and in the process of saving money. He hopes soon to have enough saved up to return to college, pursuing a degree in Business Administration, for which his work experiences should be beneficial. On October 13th, Rebecca TOKODI ('01) married Adam Soffian at St. Marys church in Marietta. The bride was lovely (as always) and the groom was tall. Adam seems like a very nice young man who has quit his job in Columbus so that Rebecca could take a position at Camden-Clark hospital as a Physician's Assistant. The occasion also offered the opportunity to catch up with the sisters (and one husband). Elizabeth ('98) and husband Allan RUTH ('91) are once again pregnant. Their daughter Mary Ellen (Class of 2024) has blossomed into a delightful young lady, and mostly enjoyed dancing the night away. Sarah ('06) was enjoying one day off from Akron basketball, but seems excited about her upcoming season, while Teresa ('08) [the dancing star of the evening] is looking forward to her Senior season at PCHS, as is her uncle Jimmy, who can't believe it has come this fast. Also at the wedding were alumni Danny ('77) and Judy Habeb ('77) TENNANT, who have just completed refurbishing their kitchen. Mrs. T says, "Stop by anytime and I'll cook you up a great meal in my new favorite room!" Christi FLANAGAN Harris ('92) was also present, and greatly enjoyed the show put on during the garter and bouquet traditions. Cheryl WOODY Morris ('01) and her husband Heath had travelled from Martinsburg, where she is currently employed by WVU East Hospital (the M-burg city hospital) as an Occupational Therapist. PCHS HOMECOMING is October 6th, and to celebrate, we're making a great week of it. Of course the students will be decorating their hallways to the theme: "PCHS Sports: It's in the Game.", but many other activities are planned. Alumni and friends are invited to "Party at the Fort" on Friday, Oct. 5th from 6 until Dark. The new Fort Boreman park overlooking beautiful downtown Parkersburg will be the site for a cookout and de facto Alumni Association meeting. There will also be a Pre-game Tailgate at the Stadium prior to Saturday's game, beginning at Noon. For $5 per plate, you can get Pulled-Pork Bar-B-Q, Chips, Coleslaw and a Drink. Come out and show your support for our wonderful Crusaders. We will also honor 40 Years of Crusader Football, with events on Friday, November 2nd. There will be a pre-game tailgate party beginning at 6:00, with a Halftime plaque presentation honoring all former players and coaches of our beloved Crusaders. The team takes on Williamstown in the feature, then a post-game gathering will give everyone the opportunity to catch up on old times. Plan on joining in!. The next Alumni Association meeting will be on October 2nd at 6 PM at Colombo's. Plan to attend! Call the PCS Development office for further details - 428-8572. August 2007 ~ Running into Mark MALLETT ('98) at Wal-Mart was unusual for a variety of reasons, the greatest of which was that he had his Russian visitor Sergey ZAVERSKY along with him! Sergey and his sister Julia were in the midst of a wild US tour that had them in New York, Detroit, Cedar Point, and soon South Beach. Sergey is working in Moscow, and Julia (who was 8 when we first visited Russia!) is at the university. She reports that Lyudmilla Alekseyeva is still teaching at School 556, and thinks of the U.S. often. Meanwhile, Mark is working for Pricewaterhouse Coopers in Columbus, though he hasn't changed a bit. ~ Whitney MOORE Lucas ('99) gave birth to a beautiful baby girl on June 21st. Sawyer Summer Lucas was 7lbs 7 oz. and was 18.5 inches long. She is obviously patriotic, as you can tell from her picture. ~ Catherine CHUA Healing ('94) has also had a baby. The lovely Miriya Emma Chua Healing was born to Catherine and Tim on April 8th. She was born at 35 weeks, so was only 5lb. 3 oz. but is doing wonderfully as you can see from the announcement. Catherine is currently working at NYU Medical Center as an RN on the endoscopy unit, while her husband is employed by the Metropolitan Museum of Art. They live in Forest Hills. She also reports that her brother Walter ('88) is a surgeon in Long Beach, CA, while her brother Michael attends pharmacy school in New York. ~ Stephanie PAWLUCH Poliseno ('92) writes to us about her darling baby, Piper Olivia, who was born on April 14th. Stephanie and her husband Vince created a beautiful daughter, who weighed in at 7 lbs 6 oz., and was 21 inches long. They are justifiably proud of their cutie-pie, and included a photo to share their joy with others. ~ As it seemingly must be, a new life enters the world while another leaves. We were very saddened to learn of the passing of Andrea BRADLEY's ('95) father in mid-June. He had been ill with leukemia for some time, and we sympathize with Andrea for her difficult time. She has added new responsibilities to her life, and we know that she will handle them effectively, though it will be difficult to adjust to life without her father. Our love and prayers, as always, are with Andrea during this time. June 2007 ~ Sarah BURKETT Flagg ('98) writes to inform us that she has given birth to a beautiful, bouncing baby boy, Jacob Christopher. Born on March 6th, he weighed in at 8 lb.s, 9 oz. and measured 21.5 inches. ~ Kasey McCALL ('96) is participating in the Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon in Virginia Beach over the Labor Day holiday. She is working with Team in Training to raise funds to help research cures for Leukemia and Lymphoma. She has committed herself to raising $2400 toward that cause, and asks for help from all former students and faculty of PCHS. You can jump on her bandwagon by visiting her webpage HERE. Please be generous! Here is some new info about the Blue & White Weekend, for those of you who wondered: ~ On Friday night, June 15th, there will be an alumni gathering at the Dils Center (Market Street, Downtown) open to all alumni of the school. The gathering will run from 7 to 11, have music by The Greens (our music teacher Nathan Yoke's excellent band), plenty of snack food, and a cash bar with keg. Drop by and catch up on all those folks you remember so well (except for yours truly - on the way to the beach that day!) ~ Saturday features the Golf Tournament, of course. Details can be found further down this page. ~ Sunday will include a Mass at St. Margaret Mary's on Dudley Avenue hosted by Father Peterson, our Pastor, at 11 AM. PCHS itself will be open for visits from Noon till 2:00. Drop by and see what all has changed since you were here. (Pay particular notice to the computers, SMARTboards, etc.) ~ Other Class Events: The Class of 1977 will meet at Petrella's house on Friday, and at the Dils Center on Saturday evening. The Class of 1982 will meet at JP Henry's on Friday evening, with a cash bar available. The Class of 1987 will meet at JP Henry's on Saturday starting at 7 PM, with a cash bar available. The Class of 1992 will meet at the NET on Friday evening, and at Tommy Joyce's house on Saturday evening. The Class of 1997 will also meet at JP Henry's on Saturday at 7. Judy Eaton will be celebrating her 40th Birthday at JP Henry's on Saturday evening as well. Also, Mrs. Haid (who just retired after 30 years of faithful service) asks me to remind all of you about the Anna Lou Vitti Scholarship Fund, which was established this past year by the faculty in memory of our dear, departed registrar. Serving us well for 29 years, Anna Lou embodied many of the qualities we value so highly at PCHS, and was always devoted to our school, and was always helpful to students and faculty. This scholarship is a good way to remember her faithfulness and devotion. It will be presented annually to a deserving Senior who best exemplifies Anna Lou's qualities. Donations may be sent to the Parkersburg Catholic Schools foundation, c/O PCHS. BLUE & WHITE weekend is coming sooner than you think. It's time to be making plans. Here are the details you need to know. All events will be held the weekend of June 15 - 17. Class reunions are individualized, and you should seek out your Class President to find out what the arrangements are. (If I uncover them, I'll put them here.) The 32nd Annual Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday, June 16th, at Worthington as usual. The shotgun start will occur at 8:00 AM. The fee is $50 per golfer, and you must be age 21 or older to enter. Your entry fee includes golf and cart, as well as food and drink all day. Our 4 Person Scramble will also have Skins Games and a 50/50 drawing to enter separately. If you wish to register, or need further information, contact any of the following: Terry & Bill Boyle [295-8611] or Worthington Golf Club [428-4297]. In a related story, Erin McCall Augenstein asks all interested members of the Class of 1992 to e-mail her for details on the Class Reunion. May 2007 -- ~ The latest report on Kelly BROGAN Holbrook ('92) is that her cyst is growing, but doctors are taking a wait-and-see approach to treating it, because they believe that surgery may present other complications worse than her current symptoms. Naturally, she continues to maintain her positive outlook, taking college classes, preparing for a future in education, and believing strongly that God will see to it that this inconvenience resolves itself logically. Meanwhile, your continued prayers are important and appreciated. If you would like to write to Kelly (since we don't have a current e-mail address) you can send cards and letters to her at 1512 Early Spring Drive, Lancaster, OH 43130-7942. ~ Andrea BRADLEY ('95) writes that her father also is having medical difficulties. He has had two very difficult years dealing with Leukemia, but is hoping for a successful bone marrow transplant this summer at Emory University. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. ~ John ROMINE ('73) reports that his lovely daughter Amanda married recently to Nick Kress, a Marine stationed at Cherry Point, NC. Amanda is serving as a nurse for a cancer treatment facility in New Bern, NC, and the young couple seems to be getting along very well. April 2007 -- ~ While maintaining prayers of solace for those whose families were effected by the shootings at Virginia Tech, we are joyful in noting that PC grads Caitlyn CRISS and Jacob LUTZ (both Class of '05) were uninjured in the attacks. ~ Our sympathies also go out to the LOZINSKI family. Since our last report updating Nikki's experiences since leaving us, it has come to our attention that her sister Carole Anne ('92 )was the victim of a murder-suicide this past November. While living in Vermont, she had recently become employed by MicroData GIS, where she was considered a "trusted friend and valued coworker". No doubt the folks there found her bouyant personality and infectious laughter contagious, as did those of us who knew her at PCHS. We are deeply saddened by her loss. ~ Congratulations are due to David BELLO ('04), who has received two prestigious awards at WVU recently. He was awarded the Eleanor Tucker Donley Memorial Scholarship for the Outstanding Junior in the English Department. That was followed up by the Ronald E. McNair Scholarship, which memorializes the astronaut who was killed in the Challenger explosion. McNair Scholars receive a wide array of benefits, including: a 6-week Research Institute in early summer, during which they will visit many colleges to explore their graduate programs; two research classes, where they will meet 2nd-year Scholars and observe their project presentations; academic stipends; faculty mentors; professional development opportunities; and graduate placement assistance. In addition, David was recently featured in the Daily Athenaeum for his musical performances at 123 in Morgantown. Naturally, we are very proud of David for his multi-faceted accomplishments. ~ Amber FOX Gill ('97) wrote in to catch us up on activities at her house. She and her husband Marcus just had their second child on March 8th. The young fellow's name is Joshua Sawyer (LOST fans?), who was happily welcomed by his older brother, Andrew Conner (age 3). Amber is currently teaching 1st Grade at Emerson Elementary (where she is enormously popular, no doubt). She also reports that sister KARI ('05) is attending Fairmont State College, where she majors in Elementary Education, with a specialization in Math. Kari is moving faster than the usual pace, having completed her Junior requirements within two years. The justifiably proud elder sister also reports the Kari's cheerleading squad from Fairmont recently placed 2nd in the National Championships at Disney World. Amber also informed us that Jenny EVANS Fair ('97) had her 2nd child on December 31st. Jenny and husband Mark named the young man Christopher Thomas, who along with brother Cody James, makes yet another nice family for one of our alumni. Jenny is a nurse on the Labor and Delivery floor in a Canton, Ohio hospital, where her lively personality are surely a great asset. Congratulations to both new moms and their families. Best wishes, and love always. ~ We would also congratulate Joseph KHOURY ('05) who is currently excelling at Wheeling Jesuit University. He will be extending his interest in international business this summer, while working an internship in Dubai with his uncle's distribution company, and coordinating deals with the Bank of Dubai. March 2007 -- ~ Nikki LOZINSKI Eaton ('89) discovered our website, and wrote an extensive letter catching us up on her activities since high school. After graduating from Bethany, she attended Veterinarian school at Ohio State, then worked in a number of clinics. She has now opened her own practice in Lewis Center, Ohio, which is growing by leaps and bounds. She was married (for the second time) in November 2005 to Max Eaton in a beautiful ceremony on the beach in Naples, FLA. The have a lovely young 9-month old daughter named Madeline Kay, and also have 4 enjoyable dogs. She is now planning to construct a Veterinary Hospital across the street from her clinic, while Max continues to expand his own plumbing company. She acknowledges that she has a busy, but motivating lifestyle. She looks forward to hearing from classmates, and getting together for their 20th Reunion (just two years away!) It was great to hear from you after all this time, Nikki! Good luck in all your enterprises. ~ Abby GREER ('00), serving as family secretary, writes in to report on all the doings of the Greer clan. She is quite busy as a fundraising consultant with a full-time client in Bridgeport, WV, allowing her to stay close enough to home to look after the folks - Bill ('68) and Ann. ADAM ('97) has moved to Hickory, NC, where he married Megan Gryzlo, and they have welcomed their first child, McKenna Jo into the world on January 9th. Uncle SEAN ('94) also lives in Hickory, specializing in pediatric orthotics. He is engaged to Maggi Applegate, who teaches in the same school where Adam teaches 2nd Grade and Megan teaches 1st. Maggi and Sean plan to be married at the end of July. It's good to hear that all the Greers are doing so well. ~ Amy LaBARRE ('93) has completed her RN program at WVU-P, and has entered the nursing profession, where we are certain she will be a compassionate addition. She reports that her twins Jacob and Joshua have turned 8, and that all is well at home. ~ Former local priest, and great friend of PCHS, Father JOHN RICE, has been appointed temporary administrator of St. John University Parish in Morgantown, and has become chaplain to the WVU Hospital. We wish him all the best in his new assignments. December 21st - 2006 - and Merry Christmas to all alumni! ~ Erin (McCALL) and Mark AUGENSTEIN (both '92) have a wonderful new addition to their family. Anna Josephine ("Josie") joined her sister Nora in this world on November 29th, bringing joy to her father and relief to her mother. The delivery was a bit more adventurous than originally planned, but both mother and daughter came through fine, and are now doing quite well. Welcome, Josie! We look forward to seeing you as part of the Class of 2023 (or thereabouts). That might make some of us feel old! ~ Anne (MATTHEWS) KHOURY and Hanna (both '02) are doing well, and currently living in Marietta. They recently celebrated their 2nd Anniversary, while continuing to work and further their education. Hanna works for Marietta Memorial Hospital, is finishing a Nursing degree at Washington State College, and has found a program that will sponsor him to proceed toward his MD. Anne is currently at home with their new puppy, Shadow, who had to have surgery to correct an eye problem, but she intends to work for her parents and eventually for the Humane Society. Our best wishes to all. ~ Eric BRUMBAUGH ('06) has transferred from to Muskingum College, looking for a smaller school atmosphere and a change in vocation. He intends to switch from Engineering to Education, and believes he will like the environment at Muskingum much better. Success, Eric. ~ Whitney MOORE Lucas ('99) married Chris on September 2nd, and announces the pending birth of their first child in July. Both are thrilled at the prospects, and Whitney sounds quite enthusiastic (as usual), about the marriage and the blessed event. September 2006 ~ Susan MESSICK ('64) wrote us a joyful letter in which she described a wonderful experience she and some friends had in late August. Ten of the "girls" of her class gathered at the Parkersburg Holiday Inn to celebrate that they are all turning 60 this year. 23 of the original class females are still with us, and the ten who could make the reunion came from Florida, Alaska, and all points in between, including about 8 who still live in our area. The hotel was a wonderful host, including posting the event on their immense billboard (including the age the ladies were celebrating). Sharing reminiscences brought back a flood of excellent memories, and convinced them that they had, indeed, graduated with the greatest class ever (though I'm sure they'd get some argument on that subject). They plan to push for even greater attendance at the 2009 Blue & White weekend, when they will joyously celebrate their 45th anniversary reunion. Congratulations ladies on your spirit, sense of community, and continuing good humor. Hopefully we'll see a bunch of you in 2014 for that magic 50th! ~ Larry HANLON ('90) has written in from Milwaukee, where he is a Spanish teacher, to say how happy he is that his nephew, Andrew, has come to join the PC family this year. Larry fondly remembers his time with us, and says he knows that Andrew is "fortunate to have the same opportunity". As a high school teacher, Larry identifies with his former instructors, and is busy planning a trip to Spain for his class. He and his wife, Jen, have a wonderful son they named Colman after his grandfather. ~ Matt CULLEN ('92) and his wife Erin have just become parents to Maximus Alexander Cullen. Max was born on Sept. 1st at 11:16 AM, weighing in at 7lbs 13 oz. at 19.5 inches tall. The entire family is doing well, and you can see a picture of delightful Max and his family HERE. ~ Aaron "Bear" KIRKPATRICK ('94) is also doing well, while serving his 3rd year of Radiology residency at the Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio. He happened across our website and greatly enjoyed reading about the exploits of his former classmates, as well as the current goings-on here. He has been married for 4 years to the lovely and talented Dr. Heidi Becker, an ophthalmologist, and has a son, Abraham, whom he declares is "the most wonderful son in the world". He wishes all of us well and states appreciatively that "there is not a day that I am not grateful for my education at PCHS". ~ John MOREHEAD ('06) and Trey WRIGHT ('06) write in that they are loving life in Morgantown at the big University they have supported all their lives. Both are getting along very well in their classes, feeling exceptionally well prepared by their time at PC. Meanwhile, classmate Veronica LECH is having an equally good time at her first choice, Pitt. She has joined the club softball team (as star pitcher, of course), has made many good friends, and is adapting well to college life in a major city. Summer 2006 ~ Bria DURNELL and Ben BECKER have announced their engagement to be married on August 26 in Savannah, Georgia. Both are currently living in Savannah, and look wonderfully happy in their engagement picture. Congratulations to both the bride and groom, and our best wishes for a successful marriage. ~ Stephanie PAWLUCH ('92) married Vince Poliseno on June 20th in Las Vegas at the Little White Wedding Chapel. Apparently living a life of excitement, Stephanie is also a billing accountant for inChord Communications, and plans to have children in the near future. Congratulations to Stephanie and Vince, and may all their dreams come true. ~ Erin Augenstein reports that Amy EICHSTADT Waun and her husband Scott have blessed the world with another beautiful child. Abigail Elizabeth Waun was born on July 11 at 1:44 PM, much to the joy of her parents and both sets of grandparents. You can see some pictures of the darling child on the family's website, HERE. ~ Cheryl WOODY ('02) and Heath Morris have also announced their engagement, and plan to be married in Parkersburg next summer. Both will graduate from WVU in May 2007, Cheryl with her Masters in Occupational Therapy, and Heath with a Masters in Mechanical Engineering. Obviously, our best wishes are extended to this happy couple as well.
