Every once in awhile, a win feels like a loss, and this one probably went into that category.  Chalk our shoddy play up to holidays, lack of emotion, or taking an opponent lightly, but whatever the reason, we played about as poorly as we can.  Late in the game, our defense got Hamilton rattled, and our girls started to take advantage.  We outscored the Wildcats 9-4 in the 4th to pull out the victory.  The best part of the game was Halftime, when I walked into the locker room to find a team avidly discussing all the things they needed to do better in the 2nd Half.  Hopefully, we've worked out the bugs and will play better now with each passing game.  Scoring was well-spread, with Lindsey and Kyle scoring 5, Sammy getting 4, Maggie 3, and Emma (who gave us a great emotional lift off the bench) hitting 2 foul shots.

An intriguingly bad day, in which our offense wasn't as bad as the score looked, and neither was our defense.  In fact, our boxing out in the First Quarter was the best we've probably ever done, but too many good shots wouldn't fall in, and the Eagles' size eventually overwhelmed us.  In the end, our poor shooting kept us from making much of a game of it.  Maggie led our team with 6 points, Sammy added 5, and Kyle contributed 2 to the cause.  It gave us plenty to work on over the holiday practices.

***Poor shooting and erratic defense caused our team to suffer its first loss, but the discussion in the locker room afterward was very productive, and it seemed that everyone learned a lot by the experience.  While we shot 5-20 in the First Half, the 'jackets were hitting on 8 of 17, which left us feeling pretty low.  Our defense picked up some in the Second Half, but some foul trouble and a couple of mental breakdowns stifled any hoped of a comeback.  Our depth proved useful again, and the team handled most of the inequities of the game with successful strategies.  Sammy led our scorers with 7 points, to which Maggie added 5.  Jordan, Kyle, Emma, and Mollie each contributed a basket to round out the scoring.  (Practice the following day was a bit more "spirited".)

***Our second effort was much more relaxed than the first, and the results showed.  Our girls used their press and fast break effectively to take a 12-4 First Quarter lead, and never looked back while decimating the Blue Devils.  Maggie Boelter, Kyle Pugh, and Sammy Hicks each scored 4 in the First, while our defense kept the Blue Devils bottled up pretty well.  We widened the score each of the next two quarters, and all 17 players got some significant minutes.  Eight girls scored, and every team member made a positive contribution on offense or defense.  Maggie led all scorers with 9 points, followed closely by Kyle and Sammy who had 8 each.  Katlyn Richards scored 5 while running the offense in the 4th Quarter, and Emma Romanowski tallied 4 points.  Mo Earley, Jordan Morehead, and Nicole Boyle also added baskets.
***The season started out on a positive note, with two games allowing all the girls to get plenty of playing time.  It was a little like "old home" week, with Beth Reck (of our 1988 Runner-Up team) coaching both teams from Belpre.  Our girls got off to a nice start, with all 5 starters scoring in the First Quarter, developing a 13-5 lead.  Our scoring slacked off a bit in the Second, but the Halftime score of 18-9 left us with plenty of work to do.  Kyle Pugh hit two key buckets in the 3rd, as our defense began to take its toll, and Belpre could muster only one foul shot.  Now leading 28-10, we used our depth to keep the Eagles at bay.  Kyle led all scorers with 10 points, while Maggie Boelter and Sammy Hicks were tied for second with 6 each.  Lindsey Fasching talled 4, while Maureen Earley, Emma Romanowski, and Ashten Wilkinson (playing against her old mates) each had 2.  Jordan Morehead's foul shot capped our scoring.  The 7th Grade game found us using some interesting combinations, since several girls had used up their minutes in the first game.  Still, we held a 17-12 lead after the first quarter, as Sammy Hicks (8) and Tiffany Mahoney (6) exploded offensively, and Lindsey Fasching dropped in a 3-pointer.  We went behind 20-30 at Halftime as we struggled to find offensive consistency.  Our scoring improved in the 3rd Quarter (11 points) but went back into hiding in the 4th.  Still, the experience was very helpful for future games.  Sammy led our team with 8 points, Tiffany ended with 6, and Emma scored 5.  Lindsey had her 3, as did Mollie Simonton, and Nicole Boyle, Katlyn Richards, Natalie Spanner, and Ashley Mennillo each added 2.
