We finally got to see the sort of Offensive production we thought we were capable of, but our Defense seemed to suffer a bit as a result.  This day is always a bit unsettled anyway, since we try to save enough time for the girls to play the 7th Grade game too.  Despite the different rotations and our usual tentativeness on their court, the girls played well together, and recognized their responsibilities, no matter what defense we used.  Teresa led all scorers with 19, and Andrea had her season high (so far) of 13.  Kyle added 6, and Leighton Roush, Maureen Earley, and Ashley each added a Field Goal.

This game is always a difficult one to get "in-synch" since the combinations don't usually get to play together in competition.  Still, the girls did passably well at both ends of the court until they got their act together.  Then, the two teams went in opposite directions.  Jordan went nuclear in the middle quarters, and finished with a game-high 10.  Mo Earley backed her up with 4, and Bethany Deem, Paige Schultheis, and Ashten Wilkinson each added a Field Goal.  The game gave us a great opportunity to explore our overall depth, and the results were encouraging.

Someone half-jokingly asked if the schedule-maker hated us, matching us up with such tough games to start the season.  (Since the schedule is a simple rotating pattern, this sort of thing is bound to happen once in awhile.)  With two of our eight "starters" home with the flu, the match-up against the defending County Champs (on a current 19-game win streak) seemed a really tough draw.  And it was.  Yet, there were good things to be taken from this challenge.  Despite struggling early with our realigned Offense, the girls played pretty good defense, but poor rebounding left us behind early.  Edison's fouls began to take their toll in the 2nd, and we managed to stay nearly even until Half.  With great determination, the girls fought back in the 3rd.  Unfortunately, we ran out of gas in the 4th, but came away with a positive feeling about our potential to grow into a Championship contender.  Teresa led all scorers with 20 points, while Andrea and Kyle each added 4.  Though they did not score, Jordan Morehead provided great defensive flexibility and Laura Borrelli gave us the best boxing-out we have seen all year.

Teresa started the game off with a bang, hitting our first 3-Pointer of the season.  After that, it was a pretty active contest, but one in which we showed considerable improvement.  Our Offense is still rounding into shape, but our Defense continues to do a solid job.  Teresa led all scorers again, this time netting 16.  Andrea added 4, and Paige Schultheis & Ashley Mason each gave us a Field Goal.

First games are always exciting, because you really never know what will happen.  Our girls were as jittery as I've ever seen them, and it showed in the way the game played out - full of poor shooting and discombobulated errors.  (My good friend Kirk counted 8 straight turnovers for us without a shot.)  Our usual balance on Offense and some pretty intense Defense helped us steadily increase our lead, but never allowed us to feel in control.  Teresa Tokodi led all scorers with 11 points, Kyle Pugh began her career with 7, Andrea Tracewell hit 3 Foul Shots, and Kayla Perkinson & Ashley Mason each scored one Field Goal.  Hopefully now we can relax.
