Creative Writing I
On-line Course
Part IV ~ What is your writing style?
Here, we ask you to
explore the elements that constitute your own writing style. Each
of us has our own "voice" when we write, and that voice may change
depending on the type of writing we are doing. Some of us write
technical information effectively, while others are more suited to
humorous anecdotes. Some are capable of writing passionately
about important issues, while others find themselves drawn to satire in
order to make their point.
Begin by reading Section V of Strunk & White's Elements of Style.
What principles do they mention that you believe would help you be a
better writer? Write a journal about what you think your "voice"
sounds like. When you are writing at your best, what are the
elements of that writing that really work? What weaknesses do you
see in your style that will need to be remedied before you become as
accomplished as you wish to be? (20 Points - do not let the small
point margin of this assignment confuse you about its importance.)
